It took eight weeks of protests, public blood-letting from the Liberal Party, threats to plunge the Government into minority and even an abandoned move on Gladys Berejiklian's leadership.
But the controversial bill that will decriminalise abortion has now passed the NSW Parliament.
The bill that passed today is more conservative than the original introduced by Independent Alex Greenwich on August 1 — and opponents of it have worked hard to make changes.
But three fundamental aspects have remained intact.
They include:
Removing abortion from the Crimes Act
Allowing an abortion up to 22 weeks gestation
Allowing an abortion after 22 weeks gestation with the approval of two "specialist medical practitioners"
A "specialist medical practitioner" means an obstetrician or doctor with experience in obstetrics.
The NSW bill was modelled off the Queensland bill which passed last year and is similar to the Victorian legislation, although in that state abortions are allowed up to 24 weeks.

(BEAR IN MIND, WHEN THE ABC SAYS "UP TO 22 WEEKS GESTATION" , THIS IS ON DEMAND. FURTHERMORE, AFTER 22 WEEKS, IT STATES "WITH APPROVAL OF TWO 'SPECIALISTS MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS''". THIS IS FAKE NEWS, BECAUSE AFTER 22 WEEKS THE ABORTIONIST (WITH OBSTETRICS QUALIFICATION) AND ANOTHER COLLEAGUE (WITH OBSTETRICS QUALIFICATION) CAN EASILY APPROVE OF THE WOMAN'S ABORTION - AS SIMILAR HAPPENS IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA; AND THE SECOND DOCTOR DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO SEE THE WOMAN, BECAUSE THERE IS NO PENALTY IF HE/SHE DOESN'T. IN REALITY, UNBORN BABIES CAN BE KILLED VIA AN ABORTION PROCEDURE, ON DEMAND, THROUGHOUT EVERY STAGE OF PREGNANCY, RIGHT UP TO BIRTH).
